Remember these vintage school science lab tables from your school days? Scaramanga does... Classic lab desks from school science lessons now make ideal desks, kitchen islands, bar tables, studio tables or work areas. These lab tables were made by ESA/Esavian in 1974 (see the makers stamp photo).
A solid beech wooden frame with a super thick solid teak hardwood top, these tables are super popular because of their industrial features and structure and robust construction.
Scaramanga sourced 10 of these tables from a school in near Newcastle.
The table-tops tell a story by all by themselves; you can see from the photos, this table has a surface marked with cup rings, etching, scratches, and graffiti pen-marks of years past. These features are consistent with their age and original use. We feel these add to their character and appeal. They are all well used, so have wear and tear marks and graffiti on tops and legs.
Scaramanga loves the flexibility of this style of table: together - multiple tables end-to-end make a great statement dining table or individually a solo table would make a kitchen island when used with stools. These tables also work well for a commercial bar or coffee shop.
Vintage wooden stools are excluded, but we have 17 of the ones in the photo available here and 10 narrower seated old wooden stools. 4 stools can be positioned around a table.
The producer of these tables - Esavian - used the name ESA or 'Education Supply Association'. The company was famous for producing low cost, good quality school furniture.
Bio: The ESA began trading in 1883 from a factory in Fishers Green Road (Hertfordshire, UK). The company focused on modern manufacturing techniques and as a result, Esavian stood for low-cost, good quality furniture, but they became best known for innovative folding classroom partitions (remember those from your school days?) and tables.
If you are buying multiple tables please phone to discuss shipping costs.
Size: W120cm x D100cm x H85cm -- please measure door frames, these may not fit through all typical home door frames. The tables can be turned on their sides. A width of 85cm is required to allow the table to pass through a doorway. It may be possible for a vintage school lab table to fit through a doorway of 80cm if the walls on either side adjacent to the handle are cleared for access. If you are doubtful whether a table will fit please contact us before ordering.
Our school tables and desks are not new or made to look old. They may have small marks and scratches on them, which are consistent with their age and original use. We feel these add to their character and appeal. Please look at the photos to get an idea of their condition.
