Indian Kadai Fire Bowls

An old Indian kadai fire bowl is perfect for outdoor gatherings with friends and family. Bring people together around a warm fire and create a stylish garden feature in your outdoor space with our unique collection of kadai fire bowls and fire pits. This piece of outdoor furniture was traditionally used for communal cooking in Northern India and is used for many events such as weddings today. Whether you are looking for a vintage piece to enjoy on chilly nights or a traditional upgrade to your outdoor space, our fire bowls would make a great addition to your garden.

Each old bowl is washed, repaired and combined with a low-level stand or has legs welded to its base. All of our Kadai firebowls are originals and old. We do not sell reproduction kadais. Our sizes range from 30cm to 120cm, so perfect for 2 to 10 people.

We have kept this collection in its original form to create a popular distressed look and feel that we love at Scaramanga. Our fabulous bowls are very simply repurposed from traditional Indian cooking pots called kadais. The provided handles are a great function to move the fire bowl to a convenient place when not in use. We outsourced a local blacksmith to design tripod stands to place the bowl so you can sit around the pit with friends and family during the summer. Each patio fire pit is unique so you won’t have to worry about your friends or neighbours copying your fabulous garden decor.

We also have a small fire bowls so you don’t have to worry about the patio furniture taking up all of the space in your garden. Due to the traditional composition of the pots, you may find small marks and scratches on the metal. This is our favourite part of the garden fire pit and adds endless character to your outdoor space.

Whether you are looking for a fun fire to keep your guests warm during your garden party, or updating your outdoor space with a vintage style an Indian kadai fire bowl is just what you need. The vintage outdoor fire pit will be a purchase that you will never regret.

What’s the difference between an antique original and a modern reproduction? At first glance, it can be hard to tell especially when the new one has been chemically aged to look old. Generally, kadais were always used as cooking pots or caldrons. They are made from heavy gauge iron plates riveted together by a master craftsman blacksmith. They will often show signs of repair and overall they have a lot more character than the thinner newer ones. Edges and rivets will be worn and they will show a lot of patina from constant use. They will have aged perfectly over time. Older ones will always be unique in size, shape and finish.

They are still used today. Indian weddings will typically be attended by many hundreds often thousands of people. Large handmade pots may be used to cook delicious spicy meals for the guests. Of course, today more modern stainless steel pots are now used to cook large batches of food on gas burners making these antique Indian cooking pots redundant. But they are still used by traditional remote and rural villages, communities and temples to cook food for guests and members. Historically extra-large kadais were used by landowners / factory owners to cook food for workers.

Can I leave my kadai outside? What will happen to my fire bowl if left outside?Although we have cleaned and restored our bowls they will age further and turn an orange / rust brown over time with age. This does not affect the integrity and durability of the metal. We recommend rubbing your bowl with a oily cloth after each use. Of course, wait for the bowl to completely cool completely before touching or moving it.Kadais should only be used outside in well-ventilated areas away from any combustible materials.
