Vintage Industrial Furniture

Industrial furniture can be used in an interior design scheme to add an interesting touch to a home or workspace. Industrial furniture can either furniture that would have been used in an office, factory or warehouse that is then transferred to a home. These could be tables, chairs, cupboards, cabinets, light fittings, boxes, crates, tins and so much more.
These would have been items originally made for these settings. So a table could have been make for using as a worktop. It would be strong, with extra support and strength to allow it to be continuously used without breaking or wearing out. Other industrial furniture items might have been used for a purpose and then repurposed, modified or recycled. So a large storage drum might be cut in half and topped with recycled metal to make a lower level side table for a living room.
Expect to see bare wood and metal and very functional looking furniture. Older industrial pieces may also show rust, extreme wear, but that is part of the charm as each piece will wear and deteriorate differently.
Industrial items are often made from heavy metal or even cast metal, hardwoods. They will often not show any fanciful decorative finishes and may look unfinished. However, their raw look can be balanced by mixing them with vintage, antique or contemporary pieces that are decorative and softer. Often referred to as eclectic interior design styling it is a style that has been very popular in recent years.
