Large bronze statue of a West African woman statue.
Our classic bronze statues have been cast using traditional methods dating back hundreds of years to the Kingdom of Benin. In Benin, Western Nigeria, artists produced high-quality handmade bronze sculptured figures and heads during the 15th century.
Few people outside Africa knew about African sculpture until the 1900's when it became a major influence on Western art. The fine Benin bronzes were among the early African arts to win widespread acclaim in Europe.
Each figure has an oxidised finish, give it a lovely antique look and feel.
Their simple, bold and dramatic designs depict everyday life in West Africa.
West African woman bronze figure height: approx 32cm.
Our bronze statues have been hand cast using traditional methods, which means that no two are ever exactly the same. They may be some small variation in some of the features of the figure and the colour may not exactly as shown in the images. We feel this adds to their originality, character and appeal.
