SOLD Old Second World War gas mask chest. This chest is probably the most unusual chest we have had. It was a large household pine chest for storing blankets and bed linen, before being 'rerequisitioned' during the war. It was then painted red and used as a gas mask storage chest. Its broard panel construction gives it a simple country style. The lid opens to reveal a large main compartment.
We have left the chest's exterior in its original condition. The top and side panels have genuine faded and distressed surfaces.
Our old wooden chests and trunks are unusual and each differs in size, style, finish and the number of compartments inside them.
This truely distinctive old chest would make a stunning feature in a living room, bedroom or hallway.
The top panel of the chest was replaced at some stage of the chest's early life and is made from a single piece of cypress wood.
Size: W100cm x D57 x H57 (40" x 23" x 23")
