Product Information for Large Red Wooden Chest 1197

SOLD Very unusual red wooden chest with lots of secret compartments and an oriential influence. The chest has been constructed from an unknown dense tropical hardwood using dovetail joints. The lid lifts to reveal A large old wooden trunk with a stunningly beautiful hand carved interior, brass handles, bindings, facings, and edgings.
The lid lifts to reveal the top level with seven compartments of varying sizes with carved flower lids.
On the inside of the lid is a rack running the width of the chest. with carved pegs slotted along the bottom. A tray lifts to reveal a large lower compartment with small side compartments, below which are a series of secret compartments. We have found six, but there may be more!

Our hardwood chests and trunks are unusual and each differs in size, style, finish and the number of compartments inside them.
They would make a great feature in a living room, bedroom or in a study.
These distinctive old chests would make beautiful jewellery or memory box or a great place to put your valuables.
Indian merchants and families would have originally used these authentic old wooden chests for keeping stationery, valuables, heirlooms, notes and records.
