Product Information for Steamer Trunk 2785

SOLD  - Fabulous authentic old steamer trunk used by Brigadier R H PERRY whilst serving as Chief Engineer in the Middle East after World War II. The well-used wardrobe trunk opens to reveal an opulent interior with three drawers and hinged storage box with three further compartments. The extendable hanging rail still retains five plywood hangers.
This well fitted trunk dates from the 1940s, possibly earlier. It still retains many of its shipping labels. 
Also known as a cabin trunk or wardrobe trunk. It folds open to reveal an expanding wardrobe section and an arrangement of 4 drawers. This is an good example of an old travel trunk which has a hanging rail, wooden hangers, lower document and briefcase and an original clothes protector in one side and four drawers on the other. This is a fine example of luggage specially made for the rigours of rail, sea and road travel. The trunk's interior is in good condition with the original fittings and lining. There are very few marks or dents to the exterior of the trunk. The lock has been dismantled and does not work.
 
Today they make interesting and fascinating features around the home. Their bold simple construction and their distressed look and feel mean they can be used in so many ways. Use an old trunk at the end of a bed or on top of a cupboard or wardrobe for storing linen or clothes.
Quite simply no retro or vintage influenced room would look right without a classic old travel trunk.

Brigadier R.H. Perry, CBE, MC, Chief Engineer Palestine and Transjordan was 653^rd Squadron Leader. The squadron was one of five units of engineer specialists troops deployed on construction tasks in the area. The other units were the 344th, 796th and 887th Electrical and Mechanical Companies, R.E. and the 659th Artisan Works Company, R.E.
Note: There is extensive scuffing on both large panels. Our old and antique wooden chests, travel trunks, coffers and boxes are not new or made to look old. They may have small marks and scratches on them, which are consistent with their age and original use. We feel these add to their character and appeal.
