SOLD Rare antique camphorwood chest with faded brass corners. The wood gives off a wonderful scent, which was intended to repell pests such as moths and woodworm from infesting the wood. camphorwood chests were widely used in the 19th and early 20th centuries as storage chests for seamen of their long voyages around the world. The lid opens to reveal a large main compartment. Note: this chest does not have a lock or hasp and staple. The small recessed ring handle is not present.
