Scaramanga have a very limited stock of rare Royal Navy rum flagons and cases from the last remaining stock of original official Royal Navy rum. Each set comprises two wicker clad stoneware flagons and a wooden storage case. These are authentic flagons that stored British naval rum that was part of naval traditions and history going back to 1655, when serving British sailors were served rum instead of brandy.
With the withdrawal of the navy rum ration (also called a ‘tot’) on 31st July 1970, the rum, stored in oak soleras in warehouses in Deptford, Gosport and Devenport, was transferred into wicker clad stoneware flagons, sealed and moved to Government bonded warehouses where the remained undisturbed for nearly forty years.
This batch is believed to be the last in existence, predominantly from German and Belgian sites. Munster, Antwerp and Bellefield where British armed forces were stationed. Many of the cases have inspection stamps and marks with official armed services supply notices and bonded warehouse markings dating to the 60's, some to the 50's. Off course the contents of the cases could be could be older.
We have acquired the cases from the company that decanted the rum from the flagons.
The rum that was removed from the flagons a few years ago has been rebottled as Black Tot Last Consignment which can be bought for £610 a bottle.
