Imposing colonial art deco teak two-door cupboard (also known as an almira) from India with two lower drawers. Hand crafted from thick teak in a classic colonial 1930's style. The teak has matured over time to reveal its lovely unique golden grain. The doors of this cupboard are a work of art in their own right. They appear to have been painted green and have most probably been stripped to reveal the the golden teak.There are subtle traces of green in parts of the doors. The The upper panels feature a tradional ‘sunbrand’ motifs, which represent the sun and its rays and are considered to be extremely auspicious for Indians for the sunbrands are a symbol for light, knowledge and life-giving powers. The lower panels feature vertical lines in two raised mihrab panels.
The doors open to reveal a two shelves, which are ideal for storing clothes or bed-linen.
