Striking colonial art deco teak two-door cupboard (also known as an almira). Made in India during the early part of the 20th Century this lovely piece has been carefully restored and refinished and would make a centre-piece in any vintage inspired room. Hand crafted from thick teak in a classic colonial 1920's style with curved edges, stepped top panel, bold parallel lines and geometric shapes. The teak has matured over time to reveal its lovely unique golden grain. The doors of this cupboard are a work of art in their own right. The The upper door panels and aproned base feature inlain traditional ‘sunbrand’ motifs, which represent the sun and its rays and are considered to be extremely auspicious for Indians for the sunbrands are a symbol for light, knowledge and life-giving powers. The lower panels feature vertical lines and shapes.
The upper doors open to reveal a two shelves, which are ideal for storing clothes or bed-linen and the lower a single shelf and a secret compart on either side!
