On the fashion front, there is no doubting that University is high maintenance. Girls may turn up for lectures in slouchy jogging bottoms, with their battered looking vintage leather bag and messed up hair, but it is a fashion statement: the jogging bottoms are from Jack Wills, they are teamed with a tight top and the hairstyle has been tactfully hair-sprayed in place for that ‘just out of bed’ look. Guys can be spotted in their Barbour jackets, tight jeans and sunglasses. Well, maybe the Jack Wills bottoms and the Barbour jackets are specific to here in St Andrews, but it still seems that students everywhere students are dressed to impress - they have a distinct style: as my mum likes to tell me every time I go home “you’re always dressed like a student!

A Scaramanga Vintage Style Leather Satchel

The leather satchel has been around for centuries as a means of carrying stuff - it even crops up in Roman times under the name of Loculus which literally means ‘little place’ in Latin. Used by Roman Legionaries, these satchels would probably have been used to store rations and personal belongings, and were carried as part of a Legionary’s luggage.

However, for carrying stuff is one thing, but the leather satchel only really came into the fashion limelight in the 17th century when it became a popular fashion accessory for the first time.
